This course is suitable for beginners and up. If you’ve never used a sewing machine before we strongly recommend starting with our Absolute Beginner - Sewing Machine Basics to help you get the most out of this course.

This course is a total of 9 hours held over 2 x 4.5 hour sessions. Our class sizes are small so pre-booking is essential to secure your place.

This class will be taught in English but one of our class teachers will always be on hand to offer individual discussions in Swedish if this is your preferred language.

DESCRIPTION

This is a hands-on sewing course focused on repair, alteration, and creative transformation. Bring a garment from your own wardrobe that you’d like to alter, mend, or up-cycle, and learn practical and creative techniques to help you breathe new life into your clothes. As well as more typical alteration and mending techniques we will also explore creative ways of re-imagining old and worn out garment by adding textile decoration such as patches or textural coverings using remnant fabrics.

This course is perfect for anyone who wants to extend the life of what they already own, whether it’s shortening a pair of pants, reshaping a shirt that no longer fits, patching your favourite worn-in jeans, or reimagining an old garment into something new.

Across the sessions you’ll be guided through useful and adaptable methods for altering fit, repairing damage, and creatively up-cycling. You’ll get support with your individual projects while also learning from what others in the group are working on.

No matter your starting point, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how to work with clothes you already have and the confidence to keep experimenting on your own.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

All sewing machines, tools and equipment. You will also have access to our textile library of fabric offcuts, in cottons and linens, to use for your remake/repair project.

A garment (or a couple) from your own wardrobe that you’d like to alter, mend, or up-cycle.

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR

This class is for BEGINNERS and up who want to learn how to alter, upcycle and mend their own clothes in creative ways. The Cloth Lab is a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone, regardless of age, size, ability, or gender.
